Duties
Major Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
Develops, researches, writes, and implements on-site and off-site education programs relevant to the interpretive themes and goals of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Assists with the evaluation of curriculum materials for appropriateness and effectiveness. Practices contemporary education methods and techniques to support these activities.
Develops and presents a wide variety of formal (e.g., walks, talks, tours, presentations, demonstrations, events, and virtual interactions) and informal interpretive experiences.
Frontline responsibilities may include providing orientation and information at visitor contact stations, performing roving assignments, and completing assigned tasks and projects that support Interpretation & Visitor Services Operations.
Physical Demands: Work may require extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, vehicular travel, moderate lifting, and speaking. Work will be with constantly changing audiences, such as school groups. ranging in age from grade school to high school, and is physically and intellectually demanding. Driver's license is required.
Working Conditions: Work is conducted both in and out of doors and is subject to variables including snow, rain, heat, high winds, sleet, tornadoes, temperature extremes, and hazardous plants and animals.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota and includes the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness Area. The park consists of three separate units: South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The colorful Little Missouri River badlands provide a scenic backdrop to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is home to a variety of plants and abundant wildlife, including bison, elk, pronghorn, and bighorn sheep.
Summers are warm and sunny with temperatures occasionally reaching 100 degrees F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Winters are invigorating, with temperatures sometimes reaching -35 degrees F. Skies are usually sunny. Snow is sporadic in the relatively dry climate, but heavy snow and blizzards are possible. Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/24/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: presenting curricula-based education programs; research and development of materials and activities to support curricula-based programming related to cultural history, natural history, biological/physical sciences, natural resources; performing administrative tasks to support coordination and oversight of programming for youth groups, families and the general public. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
