About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Public Affairs Specialist with the Public Affairs Office, Fort Jackson, SC. Fort Jackson is located in Columbia, SC, a city filled with hundreds of years of preserved in museums, churches, monuments and plantation houses.
Duties
Serve as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Fort Jackson Public Affairs office with primary responsibilities in the areas of Strategic Communications/Planning.
Help plan and develop the execution of the command information program.
Develop and execute Fort Jackson’s media relations program.
Responsible for the command information transmitted on the installation.
Review and prepare important/critical correspondence and reports.
Develops necessary communications channels with individuals and groups.
Advise and train field personnel in the area of media relations and media requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) producing articles, newsletter, brochures, pamphlets, to promote command functions and activities; (2) maintaining the command's social media sites by developing and editing feature stories and other articles of employees' interest; and (3) organizing print and broadcast media interviews with members of the command. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
