This position is part of the Security Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Serve as the liaison within the Control Center. Report accidents and file required paperwork involving the equipment, vehicle, and human resources dispatched. Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephones calls. communicating effectively with various callers to obtain complete information to determine urgency and need for dispatching police, fire, towing, and/or medical response. Use a Computer Aided Dispatching System (CAD) system, telephones, multi-channel radio, IDD (text telephone device for hearing/speech impaired), agency databases, and automated map systems. Develop incident notification confirmation results reports and prepare standard operating procedures for operational requirements. Prepare standard operating procedures for operational requirements.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required
  • Selectee must pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment
  • Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period
  • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance.
  • Selectee must undergo a background investigation for a Public Trust.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure report may be required
  • Applicant will be subject to an Access National Agency Check with written Inquiry (ANACI) and must be able to obtain and maintain access/eligibility to classified information.
  • Applicant will work one of three shifts (Monday-Friday).
  • The agency retains the right to order emergency services dispatchers to work overtime when efforts to obtain emergency services dispatchers have failed.
  • Applicant must successfully complete the Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification Course within 1 year of appointment.
  • Applicant must successfully attain and maintain Department of Justice National Crime Information Center qualification.
  • Applicant is considered mission essential.
  • Applicant must have experience utilizing a CAD system.
  • Must be skilled to utilize various software systems proficiently with speed and accuracy.
  • Must be able to immediately initiate and implement GPO's Emergency Notification System.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Emergency Services Dispatcher, PG -2151-7, you must meet the following requirements: To minimally qualify for the PG-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at the PG-06 (or equivalent) level or higher. Specialized experience may include the following: - Processing information into databases related to incident support - Maintaining communication logs and summary reports. - Utilizing dispatching procedures and equipment to dispatch police, fire, medical etc., to related emergencies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(05/02/2024) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
