Duties
Serves as a Project Engineering Technician in planning, designing, and analyzing projects.
Serves as a reviewer for (sidewalk repairs, replacements, office, restroom renovations, basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work, etc.
Responsible for developing plans including installation of machinery, repair of water and sewer lines, construction, repair of buildings, and other facilities; sprinkler, heating, ventilating, air, specialized electrical systems.
Reviews a variety of drawings, material specifications, test procedures, and other documents pertaining to assigned projects for technical adequacy and compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
Performs technical studies to determine the capabilities of new and existing facilities.
Provides technical engineering guidance and assistance on assigned projects.
Serves as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) when appointed in writing by the Contracting Officer with responsibility for "field and office" engineering-
- management and surveillance of all contract construction involving new construction, services, alteration, modification, enlargement and repair work on buildings, structures, roads, etc.

Qualifications
To qualify for an Engineering Technician, your resume must support:
A. GS-09 Level Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level or equivalent to the next lower grade level under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector as follows: For current and former Federal civilian service employees, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. For all other applicants, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level (due to no intervening grades). Examples of creditable specialized experience include:
- Assisting in the construction inspection on a variety of facilities projects; design and cost estimation for mechanical and electrical engineering systems for new and renovated facilities.
- Assisting with the preparation of technical engineering specifications and reviewing of compliance codes, regulations and other documents pertaining to various tasks.
OR
B. GS-9 Education Substitution: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or a master's or equivalent graduate degree with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. Such education must be from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work. TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED.
OR
C. GS-09 level: Combination: A combination of creditable education and specialized experience as listed in "A" and "B" above. TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED.
D. GS 11 Level Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level or equivalent to the next lower grade level under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector as follows: For current and former Federal civilian service employees, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. For all other applicants, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level (due to no intervening grades). Examples of creditable specialized experience include:
- Performing technical work primarily requiring a thorough working knowledge of methods and techniques of operation and maintenance.
- Providing technical guidance and assistance on assigned projects.
- Investigating, analyzing, and resolving problems pertaining to the design, installation, maintenance, operation, or repair of the assigned projects.
- Preparing designs and specifications and/or performs technical review of contractor-prepared designs and specifications.
- Independently carries out redesign and design of modification on existing structures, systems, and other projects.
E. GS-11 Level: Education Substitution: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or
industrial technology Such education must be from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to do the work. TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED.
OR
F. A combination of successfully completed education and experience.
WHEN USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: Education must be from an accredited college recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education. If using education completed outside the U.S., it must be submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs. YOU MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS. Failure to submit transcripts will result in a rating of ineligible.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Demands:
The work involves moderate physical demands in terms of inspections, investigations, and surveys of facilities. This normally
requires long periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending or climbing of stairs. The work is also performed in an office
setting doing paper work, and in conference rooms
Education

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
