This position located in the Sanitation Section of Facility Management Service (FMS), Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for Motor Vehicle Operator, Furniture Coordinator and Housekeeping and custodial work assigned to the Sanitation Section. The individual assigned to this position represents FMS and FMS programs.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to; Motor Vehicle Operator - 50% Incumbent must have a valid State Driver's License, which will be considered a condition of employment of this position. Incumbent may be assigned to any of the described duties on a regular daily basis. Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) will be required to operate a variety of vehicles, including: Forks, large commercial vehicles such as three-and five-ton trucks, standard size vehicles, i.e., Cushman (and 4-wheel drive), electric powered carts, etc. The MVO is responsible for the operator's maintenance of any vehicle operated, and therefore is required to make occasional trips off station for fuel replenishment, GSA Preventive Maintenance (PM) serving, and other FMS assignments. Incumbent accomplishes on a daily and recurring basis, operates vehicles with a GVW rating of between 6,000 to 10,000 pounds. Weekly operate the stations all terrain 2 ton rated forklift. The majority of the driving will take place within the confines of the Medical Center grounds, however, on a weekly and recurring basis; the MVO will transport furniture, equipment and supplies to an off-site warehouse, CBOC's and lease buildings and return to the Medical Center. The MVO will also transport/deliver furniture, equipment and supplies off site warehouse, CBOC's and lease buildings and return furniture, equipment and supplies to the Medical Center whenever the need is indicated. On a daily and recurring basis, operates a variety of standard pickup trucks, i.e., half -ton, three quarter ton, and one-ton rated vehicles, to deliver equipment and supplies to outlying buildings. On a daily and recurring basis, transports FMS equipment, supplies, furnishings, waste carts, linen carts, and other items as directed, to any of the 30+ permanent or 5 temporary buildings maintained by FMS and located within the confines of the main Medical Center complex. Occasionally, transports materials and furnishings between the VAMC and State-owned facilities. On a daily and recurring basis, performs operator vehicle inspections for oil, gasoline, water, tires, brakes, lights, and safety features for any vehicle that is operated during a given tour of duty. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that preventative maintenance (PM) requirements are adhered to, by scheduling them GSA motor pool. Checks and replenishes fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluids as needed, for the safe operation of the vehicle assigned. Incumbent will be authorized the use of a VAMC credit card for the purchase of necessary items. The MVO is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the interior storage compartment on the laundry truck after completing any waste or soiled linen transport task. Furniture Coordinator - 50% Serves as the primary point of contact for all furniture and furnishings related issues. Incumbent is responsible for the management of furniture for the entire facility. Duties include maintaining an inventory of furniture in storage; meeting with customers to determine furniture needs; selecting and initiating furniture procurement; coordinating the installation, removal, moving, storage, and disposal of furniture; and evaluating and prioritizing furniture needs duties include assuring that new furniture purchased is ergonomically correct. Evaluating work areas to assure they are ergonomically correct; addressing ergonomic complains. Incumbent is responsible for planning, coordination, and oversight of projects that are furniture in nature. Work includes coordinating for the removal of old furniture and installation of new furniture at a time that is agreeable with the parties involved. Work also includes the coordination of projects that are small in nature and associated with or best accomplished as part of furniture moves (i.e. Painting or replacement of flooring). Incumbent shall work with the assigned Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) on construction projects by assisting the interior Designer with the management of the design and activation of new space as it relates to furniture and furnishings at the completion of the construction projects and/or between project phases. Duties include assuring that space is adequate for the function and that appropriate furniture is purchased at the appropriate time (s) for the activation of the project. The incumbent works in close contact with the station Interior Design to assure that furniture is in keeping with the interior design goals and objectives. Attends meetings, obtains pertinent design criteria, and initiates actions to obtain needed information and criteria. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Physical Requirements: The incumbent performs work that requires continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping, sometimes crawling or kneeling, climbing and descending stairs, lifting, reaching, and pushing and pulling heavy carts. Incumbent must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs., and items pushed or pulled may weigh up to 500 lbs. Incumbent routinely operates power equipment, i.e., hydraulic lifts, forklift, steam cleaner etc. Work includes repetitive motions, i.e. the back and forth movement associated with mopping or sweeping floors. Working Conditions: Incumbent will be exposed to extreme heat and cold, depending on season and weather conditions while operating motor vehicles and moving furniture outdoors. Incumbent must be able to work in areas with poor lighting, heating and ventilation; is exposed to contagions, and must follow Facility Management Service procedures to avoid danger to self and others. Incumbent is exposed to skin, eye and lung irritants from dust, germicides and other cleaning solutions; must be able to tolerate unpleasant odors. While operating motor vehicles and equipment, incumbent will be exposed noise, vibration, gases and fumes.
