Duties

Research manuals and fire codes to identify fire characteristics and hazards to develop fire prevention practices in the reduction or elimination of fire or explosion. Develop special education materials and programs securing client involvement in fire prevention, fire detection, and fire suppression. Conduct physical inspections of post and range facilities to determine potential fire hazards, existing fire hazards, and works with officials to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the hazards.

Requirements

  • Performs temporary duty travel for the purpose of obtaining specialized training and other fire and emergency services.
  • This position meets the criteria for the Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs and is subject to pre-employment screening, and random testing, to include reasonable suspicion and direct involvement with an on-duty accidents.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • As a "Key" position, the incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • May be required to work alternate/fixed Monday through Friday (40) hours.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Hazardous Material Awareness AND possess or be able to obtain and maintain Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I and Public Fire and LIfe Safety Educator within 12 months. All certificates must be certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code ComplianceFire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and OutreachInspection, Testing, and Maintenance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
