This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, Quality and Safety Assessment Research in Athens, GA.
In this position, you will work as a part of a team by applying conventional, technical, and administrative solutions and practices to a variety of engineering projects. You will be involved with design and execution of experiments or the adequacy of such activities as long range work plans, field investigations, testing operations, or research conclusions.
Duties
Apply principles of engineering to assist or participate in scientific experiments.
Perform tests using standard references, guides, and precedents to select the best methods and procedures.
Construct, assemble, and install new equipment, and makes modifications and repairs to experimental or other equipment.
Plan, install and calibrate instrumentation for collecting research data.
Assemble, tabulate and conduct analyses of collected data, with responsibility for recognizing and correcting errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in the data.
Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment, records instrumental readings, and evaluates test data.
Apply initiative and resourcefulness in planning non routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
Requirements

GS-05
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is assisting with technical work associated with electrical or mechanical systems; collecting data from standard instruments; and recording and compiling data from equipment tests.
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

A qualifying combination of specialized experience and education as described above.
GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in adjusting, installing, or repairing engineering equipment; recording or evaluating experimental data; and maintaining or programming engineering systems.

Education: One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. Related degrees may include engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial technology, electrical engineering, or computer engineering.
OR
A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing technical work including maintaining and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical circuits; modifying equipment or procedures to research conditions or special requirements; and preparing reports summarizing progress, results, and observations of research.

Education: One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. Related degrees may include engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial technology, electrical engineering, or computer engineering.

A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
