About the Position: As the principal mechanic or technical lead at a large lock and dam site you will maintain all preventative maintenance, and planned/unplanned emergency repair and replacement of a wide variety of electrical, electronic, hydraulics, and mechanically interrelated/interlocking facility equipment and controls.

Duties

Works from facility plans, intricate schematics, manufacturers manuals, engineering drawings to trace and diagnose problems or impending problems with the objective of preventing actual breakdown and/or minimizing critical lock and dam down-time. Makes repairs to electrical/electronic/mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic equipment. Implements and maintains a scheduled and unplanned/emergency inspections, test operations, preventive maintenance, and repair/replacement of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical interrelated/interlocking equipment and controls. Provides technical direction to other full-time and seasonal site operating staff personnel assigned to assist in preventive maintenance and repair activities. May serve as primary credit card holder responsible for purchasing parts, materials, and supplies for project operation and maintenance requirements in accordance with written procedures and policies governing purchase actions under this authority. Maintains records documenting maintenance and repair work to include the preparation of field schematic drawings of equipment and systems, as required. Must be able to perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work relating to 120/240/480 volt single and 3 phase power systems and electrical equipment. Inspects, builds, troubleshoots, and/or disassembles electric motors, gasoline and diesel engines of the associated equipment at the installation.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
• Individual Districts may determine this position to be Mission Essential based on site-specific conditions. A designation of "Mission Essential" will be communicated by management to the incumbent(s) if applicable.
• This position requires the incumbent to lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more and will require a pre-employment physical exam.
• Incumbent may be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
• Required to have a valid state driver's license.
• Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
• Employee may be required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.

Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during the day or night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high voltage electrical equipment on scaffolds and from slings. Often the work will be behind bulkheads below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury or discomfort and when inside, exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, hard toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing.
