About the Position: This position is located with the Installation Legal Office on Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.

Duties

Serve as Clerk of Court and Court Reporter for the 3d Judicial Circuit. Manage the Military Magistrate program, ensuring adequate coverage and timely training for assigned Part Time Military Magistrates for each jurisdiction. Provide verbatim reporting of military General Courts-Martial proceedings for official record. Analyze all motions and filings for approximately 40-50 cases at a time involving dozens of counsel and six General Court-Martial Convening Authorities. Balance the needs and desires for supporting offices to establish procedures that meets everyone's needs for a particular case.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Review trial records sent to the trial judges to identify missing or inaccurate documents, transcripts, and exhibits; 2) Identify issue that may arise at the last minute resulting in addition time on the docket such as inexperience counsel filing motions after a deadline or addressing issues during trial that should have been resolved pre-trial; and 3) Provide high-speed dictation verbatim from recordings of court martials, hearings and investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision SupportLegal, Government, and JurisprudenceManages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
