The Social Work Supervisor - Primary Care Mental Health Integration; provides mental health treatment, psychosocial assessment, and case management services at an advanced practice level to eligible veterans and their family members. The Social Work Supervisor will provide direct supervision to multiple CBOC locations in addition to providing direct clinical care at the duty station.

Clinical:
The incumbent is required to interact not only with the patient but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other staff.
The position requires that the incumbent has the ability to serve veterans who may have frequent and severe crisis, lack family or an adequate community support network, be poor at self-monitoring, may fail to comply with instructions and treatment, or have significant deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychosocial support.
Treatment decisions may result in serious consequences to the veteran, and the results may be unpredictable.
Regularly treats veterans with serious medical and psychiatric problems by providing individual counseling, collaborative care manage, or group therapy.
Supervisory:
Incumbent serves as social work supervisor in a variety of assigned areas which may include: Inpatient Medicine, GEC, Primary Care, Case Management, Homeless, Community services, Mental Health, Compensated Work Therapy, and other specialized programs.
They assume the supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned social workers who function within various programs in the VA Hospital and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
As the supervisor the incumbent assists in planning, establishing and implementing policies and procedures as well as monitoring, evaluating, coordinating, and overseeing the Social Work staff of the assigned programs.
In conjunction with the Service Chief, plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the service.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm:
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Telework: Ad-hoc eligible for telework - supervisory discretion.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12
Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.
Ability to provide staff training and development.
Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
Preferred Experience: Certification in PCMHI Co-Located Collaborative Care (CCC). Certification in PCMHI Collaborative Care Management (CoCM).

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
Physical Requirements: The position is primarily active, with some bending, walking and stooping required. The position is requires employee to work in a variety of settings including community settings. This may require the employee to walk on uneven surfaces. This position requires the ability to read printed material and distinguish colors, such as reading computer screens, the ability to accurately perceive depth so as to move around work space safely and to appropriately make contact with patients and staff, and the ability to meet visual requirements to operate a motor vehicle. Considerable walking and stair climbing is required. A valid driver's license and driving ability is necessary. Driving is requirement to provide services as need to the Community Based Outpatient Clinics. This is usually once or twice a month but maybe required more as needed. The work may also require assisting physically disabled Veterans.
