1 vacancy in Queens, New York 1 vacancy in Brooklyn, New York Position is in the Engineering Service and works under general supervision of the Transportation foreman, who assigns trips and distributes work according to the number and types of requests.

Duties

Operates a gasoline operated 5-ton truck equipped with a hydraulic tail gate lift, five (5) forward speeds and one reverse, for transportation of supplies, medical equipment, beneficiary beds bulk patient medical records, furniture and various other forms of Freight as scheduled. Loads and unloads truck, insuring proper distribution of weight and secures load for safe transport. Performs daily ICC check of vehicle operation, checks all equipment such as lights, dash indicators, tires, brakes, battery, gas oil, radiator water level, air pressure, cracks in chassis, etc. Cleans and washes any vehicle in the Fleet as required. In addition to driving duties, performs all duties assigned by motor pool supervisor related to roads and grounds such as trash pickup inclusive of items discarded on the roadways, lawns and garbage cans station wide. Ancillary duties such as those stated are normally done during rotation periods whereby a driver is assigned to garage duty rather than driving. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/29/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: : knowledge for operating a vehicle with several forward and reverse speeds and hydraulic lift tail gate, etc. Skills in driving large vehicles through extremely congested areas , over roads and streets involving a variety of traffic conditions. Skill in handling vehicle controls, judging clearances, braking distances, watching for reckless pedestrians, etc. Knowledge and skill in loading and unloading truck cargo for secure and safe transport. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy physical demands may be required to load and unload the truck. Moderate physical demands for lifting and loading wheelchair, supplies, etc. weighing up to seventy (70) pounds. Incumbent works inside and outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and/or unloading. Drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions and is subject to injury from the possibility of vehicle accidents.
