This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Develops an extensive psychosocial assessment of the Veteran in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Veteran, family members and significant others. The goal of the assessment is to highlight the Veteran's strengths, limitations, and internal/external supports and service needs in order to optimize the Veteran's functional status. b. Employs a vast array of clinical skills and services as needed to accomplish treatment objectives. Conducts individual, marital and family therapy, and serves as primary therapist in treatment groups. The social worker will be equipped to utilize various clinical treatment modalities including case management, patient/family education, and Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance/Commitment Therapy (ACT), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), etc. as directed by the mental health team leader. Incumbent will attend VA EBP trainings as availability of such trainings allows. c. Ensures coverage in all program component areas and demonstrates a cooperative team spirit in providing backup coverage as needed/assigned to prevent disruption of patient care activities. d. Documents all patient care assessments, interventions, and treatment progress in CPRS in a timely and professional manner consistent with Joint Commission, SWS guidelines, and facility policies/procedures. Will capture all workload through completion of electronic patient encounters/Event Capture System and will complete clinical reminders as necessary. e. Responsible to stay abreast of current theory and treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinic seminars and teleconferences, and materials given out by staff and psychiatry. f. Participates in the overall activities of the Mental Health Service. This will include special projects, quality assurance assignments, representation on committees, development of programs, etc., as directed by operational needs to comply with Joint Commission, VA/Network mandates, and medical center/service line goals. g. Serves the Medical Center at large in a variety of capacities, such as committee assignments, investigations, personnel matters, and special projects. h. Participates in EEO and safety matters. i. Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of professional and non- professional staff at the Medical Center and in the community. j. The incumbent is responsible for the following tasks, goals and processes and assignments: 1) The coordination of the provision of a level of care for all patients that meet VA and Joint Commission standards. 2) The maintenance of comprehensive patient progress notes and treatment plans. 3) The ability to provide supportive group and individual counseling as the program demands. 4) The participation in the interdisciplinary treatment planning process, attending team meetings and working in conjunction with the treatment team. 5) Settles issues and disputes or refers them to the Patient Advocate when no solution can be reached through discussion and collaboration with other services. Qualifications

Basic Requirements The basic requirements for employment as a VHA social worker are prescribed by statute in 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(9), as amended by section 205 of Public Law 106-419, enacted November 1, 2000. To qualify for appointment as a social worker in VHA, all applicants must meet the following: a. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). b. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. c. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to SW Licensure Summary by State. d. English Language Proficiency. Grade Determinations Social Worker GS-12 (1) Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. (2) Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. [(3) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. (e) Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area.
