About the Position: This position operates and maintains water pumping and treating equipment used in the process of purifying water for personal consumption and industrial purposes.

Duties

Serve as operator in charge of the sewage disposal plant. Operate and maintain water pumping and treating equipment. Perform water plant operator maintenance. Determine significance of any problems occurring and take appropriate action. Conduct daily, routine, basic laboratory tests necessary for plant operation.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires you to possess and maintain State (Oklahoma) Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
• This position requires you to possess and maintain State (Oklahoma) Certification as a Sewage Disposal Plant Operator.
• This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
• This position requires you to complete the introductory course in hazardous waste management within six months of being appointed into the position and attend refresher course annually.
• This position requires pre-employment and annual physicals.

Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls. They frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted, and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed both inside and outside; subject to damp, odorous, and varied weather conditions for substantial amount of time; possible infection, asphyxiation, and injury from contact with sewage, and sewage gases and fumes, plant equipment and/or more severe injuries from falls into open tanks. Is exposed to chlorine gas and dusts of lime and alum which may call for protective clothing.
