The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and clerical support for the smooth operation of the Child Development Program to include customer service, monitoring customer entry, maintaining files, and assisting with manager on duty and scheduling tasks.
Duties
Provides customer service to patrons and performs Manager on Duty tasks.
Enrolls children in the child development program, documenting all information including current immunizations and fee category.
Performs inspections, conducts hourly room counts annotating staff/child ratios and number of meals and snacks served and completes required reports.
Follows resource protections and cash handling procedures related to the position.

- Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Must possess maturity and good judgment and like working with young children and their families.

- Must provide evidence of required immunizations; and be able to successfully complete required physical exam, including the ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
- Position requires operation of a government motor vehicle. A valid driver's license is required
- Work requires, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting, standing, stooping, crouching and reaching
- The position is identified as having "regular contact with children", requiring a National Agency Check, a State Criminal History Records Check and an Installation Records Check. Installation Records Check is reestablished every five years.
- Must complete all training requirements including child abuse prevention, recognizing and reporting, customer service and appropriate guidance. Required to attend training sessions and special openings conducted on the weekends and evening hours
- Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
- Required to complete SF-85 background check.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of basic arithmetic principles to make routine calculations. Knowledge of the organizational functions and services to answer inquiries or refer to the responsible staff member. Sufficient Knowledge of administrative policies or regulations to maintain files or records and perform clerical assignments. Knowledge of a body of rules, procedures, or operations applicable to clerical assignments; such as preparing various routine correspondence/reports, maintaining, files/records, and reviewing and processing mail.
OR
EDUCATION: Must have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Must have a combination of education and experience as described in the job opportunity announcement and education. NOTE: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of child development center operation including fire, health and safety requirements to include the ability to conduct facility inspection in these areas.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret Air Force Instructions, DoD/MAJCOM directives, local policies and various regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of clerical procedures and ability to accurately complete, review and maintain records.
Ability to operate a cash register, credit card machine and computer.
Ability to contend with a range of problems common to the child development environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
