The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior systems administrator with responsibility for planning and coordinating the installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems for the Air Force Wargaming Institute (AFWI).

Duties

Performs services as a senior systems administrator for assigned systems within AFWI Provides technical guidance and instruction to users and other IT specialists within AFWI. Serves as a senior technical advisor to AFWI management. Maintains liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations, and counterparts at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.

  • Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.
  • The information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment (i.e. Security Plus, CISSP). This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification with six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M.C3.2.3.2 or C3.2.3.3.
  • Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • The employee must be able to maintain a TSCI/Critical Sensitive clearance.
  • Must maintain good working relationships with peers, supervisors, and other staff agencies.
  • This position belongs to the Comm-Computer Career Program.
  • The employee may be required to perform other duties/tasks as directed by the director, to include, but not limited to “additional duties
  • cont.. (e.g. safety officer, DV escort, building manager, impact card holder, project officer, etc…) as required to accomplish the mission.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/??? Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes Application of systems integration methods, performance tuning methods, test and evaluation methods and procedures, IT security principles and methods, and project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment; Applying configuration management methods and techniques for integrating information system components sufficient to install and maintain software and hardware, optimize functionality of systems, and diagnose and recover failed systems; Utilization of the methods, principles, and practices covering troubleshooting of complex computer system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; effectively use Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio and Project. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system. Ability to maintain and up-to-date- awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements. Ability to communication orally and in writing. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions. Knowledge of computer operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability. Knowledge of audio visual and secure VTC equipment, AV booth operations, and the interoperation of such equipment with computer systems sufficient to operate, troubleshoot, test and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure their availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability; prepare plans for replacement and upgrade of AV equipment associated with support of activities performed based on mission needs. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
