About the Position: This position is with; US ARMY IMCOM JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD DIRECTORATE OF PUBLIC WORKS ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION COMPLIANCE JBLM, WA

Duties

Serve as a technical expert on structured decision-making models and other collaborative science approaches to Joint Base Lewis-McChord Biological operations. Collaborate with other scientific experts to develop and maintain models, such as surface water models; instream habitat models; salmon disease models; water quality models; horned lark models; and fisheries lifecycle models. Advise the Environmental and Natural Resources Division Chief and Joint Base Commander by recommending factual, science-based, and interdisciplinary solutions to fisheries, natural resources, and endangered species conflicts and problems. Provide guidance in performing physical habitat analyses and other analytical modeling to assess habitat quality, suitability, and impacts to fish and wildlife species that advance the JBLM mission and restore endangered species and aquatic habitats. Conduct multi-agency interdisciplinary coordination to integrate large and complex water, terrestrial, and environmental projects.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement; Biologist GS-0401 have a BS Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Or Have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement; Ecologist GS-0408 a BS Degree in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. Basic Requirement; Fish Biologist GS-0482 have a BS Degree with a major in biological science that included: At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; and At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. (Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate.) Basic Requirement; Wildlife Biologist at the GS-0486 have a BS Degree: biological science that included: At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. Or Have a combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Research positions: Degree with major in wildlife biology, zoology, or botany that included at least 30 semester hours of course work in biological science and 15 semester hours in the physical, mathematical, and earth sciences. This course work must have included: At least 9 semester hours of training applicable to wildlife biology in such subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, principles of population dynamics, or related course work in the field of wildlife biology; and At least 12 semester hours in zoological subjects such as invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy of the vertebrates, embryology, animal physiology, entomology, herpetology, parasitology, and genetics; and At least 9 semester hours in the field of botany and related plant science; and At least 15 semester hours of training in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, soils, and/or geology. Basic Requirement; General Physical Science at the GS-1301 have a BS Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. Or have a combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized Experience; Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service for the following. Assist with Investigations to provide information about fisheries, habitat issues and species abundance to inform management for their decision processes. Provide work and assistance to help full performance scientists develop policies and procedures for the processes such as surface water models, instream habitat models and water quality models. Provide work and information to Full performance Biologist so they can perform physical habitat analyses and analytical modeling to assess habitat quality, suitability, and impacts to fish and wildlife species to restore endangered species and aquatic habitats.
