Duties
Leads, administers, and provides overall professional and technical direction for the paleontology and museum collection program in accordance with all applicable law and policy.
Design, develop, test, and implement scientific monitoring protocols to identify, evaluate and provide long-term monitoring of paleontological resources and conditions.
Identifies research needs, prepares requests for proposals, and provides oversight for research projects.
Responsible for or makes significant contributions to preparation/coordination of historic preservation and environmental compliance documentation and background materials in accordance with all applicable law and policy for all park undertakings.
Frontline supervision for Museum Technician, Biological Science Technicians, Interns and Volunteers performing physical sciences or museum collections related work - includes developing work schedules and performance plans.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
This position has a basic education requirement, you must have successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or a combination of education (including the 24 semester hours required) and experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: providing paleontological program support and professional advice; participating as a professional member of a research team; providing technical assistance and serving as a subject matter expert in the conduct of research studies; planning or participating in the planning of paleontological resource projects or studies; researching, developing, and preparing manuscripts for professional publications; management of natural and/or cultural resources in park areas or similar operations; writing technical references (e.g. reports, documentation, published paper) using clear diction to express scientific concepts in terms accessible to a broad audience; working with staff from other federal agencies, state agencies, and non-governmental organizations to plan, fund, and implement projects; or demonstrated knowledge of geology, paleontology, paleobotany, museum curation, and/or fossil preparation. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three years of directly related graduate level education leading to a Ph.D degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. You must include transcripts.

An equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and one year of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
