This position is located at the Rosebud Service unit, Indian Health Service Hospital in Rosebud, SD. The RSU Behavioral Health program is an integral part of the Service Unit with the mission of providing integrated quality and culturally appropriate clinical mental health services.

Duties

Provide initial mental health evaluations, complete psychosocial assessments and follow-up with counseling on an outpatient and inpatient basis to patients referred to the Behavioral Health Department. Provides individual and family therapy to patients, focusing on high-risk problems, i.e., alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, depression, reactions to medical conditions and psychosocial problems related to and affecting medical condition. Assists health care providers and medical team in providing coordination of care, case management, and ensuring adequate behavioral health follow-up for patients with behavioral health issues. Provides case management to chronically mentally ill and dual diagnosis patients. Serve as a liaison between patient health care providers/clinic, other team members, the community, state and federal agencies.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9. Selective Placement Factor (SPF), Licensure Requirement: This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). Please provide a copy of your license with your application In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: Two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree and/or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 grade level. GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree and/or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Specialized Experience For GS-9: Provide basic assessment, diagnose, and treat a range of psychiatric illnesses; identify and assess psychosocial functioning; understand and respond to medical treatment; provide therapeutic intervention to improve wellness; provide intensive case management services to include liaison, consultation, and teaching relationships to multidisciplinary team; provide referral services and counseling to all age groups. For GS-11: Collaborate with other health professionals to assess client needs; refer patients to community resources; provide individual or group counseling; coordinate care with expert diagnostic and treatment consultation to medical providers; assess in-patient needs and patient discharge planning; provide therapy to all age groups utilizing a variety of accepted treatment techniques; develop treatment plans; provide interventions surrounding drug, alcohol, co-occurring disorders, and crisis intervention to potentially life-threatening emergencies. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
