About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 67 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This is a permanent position.

Duties

As a Supervisory Data Scientist, you will: Serve as a supervisory data scientist with responsibility as a senior subject matter expert in the highly technical and specialized area of data sciences. Coordinate operational data science requirements and activities with strategic/data supply chain policy and planning requirements. Prepare formal evaluation of employee performance or provides appraisals to be incorporated into formal evaluation and sets performance standards. Supervise staff by planning, directing, coordinating, controlling, advising on, and reviewing work. Apply professional knowledge of computer science, mathematical, statistical theories, techniques, and methods to gather, analyze, design, and construct new processes. Identify the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from various structured and unstructured data sets related to the data science lifecycle. Research, compile, and evaluate training programs. Serve as key advisor to senior leadership on all matters related to data science.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Data Scientist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to 30 semester hours as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional related education or appropriate experience. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Utilizing data visualization methodologies and tools such as Qlik Sense, Power BI, Business Objects to perform data analysis; Advising on various topics such as data analytics, data visualization tools, capabilities, organizational capacity, and enterprise analytics infrastructure in support of program management and operations; Leading a team on relevant research and analytical studies to support critical operational problems and/or decisions for artificial intelligence programs and initiatives; Performing complex analytical, mathematical, and statistical research that inform operational requirements and implementation of data solutions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
