You will serve as an Aircraft Electrician in the Industrial Execution Department, Production Trades Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform complex electrician work involved in disassembly, repair, modification, assembly, testing, installation and maintenance of aircraft electrical systems, equipment and accessories. You will correct discrepancies by removal, repair, or replacement of defective circuits, wires, connectors, control units, plugs, switches, circuit breakers, diodes, and other parts of aircraft electrical systems. You will perform final functional checks on existing and newly installed aircraft electrical systems, equipment, wiring and cables to check continuity, and resistance. You will use hand and power tools, in addition to working with blueprints, technical directives, diagrams, and schematics.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain required level(s) of certification and/or training.
  • Vision must meet near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20. Must be able to distinguish color and shades of color.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Testing and repairing aircraft electrical systems and accessories on fixed and rotary wing aircraft; 2) Working from blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical directives; 3) Correcting discrepancies by removal, repair, or replacement of parts of aircraft electrical systems; and 4) Using hand and power tools associated with the trade. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
