Duties
Perform visual and operational checks to locate source of trouble and determine best method for opening malfunctioning locking devices.
Select tools, materials, parts, methods and techniques to use in accordance with standard trade practices.
Perform maintenance and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices, such as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Tier 1NACI background is required throughout the appointment.
- Must possess a valid State driver's license.
- Must pass a pre-employment and an annual physical examination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Locksmith Worker without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common Locksmith Worker Tasks. Perform routine maintenance and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices such as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks using tools of the trade. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and working in awkward positions may be required when installing and opening locks. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in well-lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Occasionally work is done outside in bad weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises.
