Duties

This position serves as a Data Analyst (Natural Resource Monitoring) for the Division of Natural Resources. Subject matter point of contact and advisor with responsibility for performing routine data analysis work. Supports, plans, and executes well-established monitoring efforts that enable data collection, analysis, and reporting at multiple scales. Supports the state Monitoring Coordinator by increasing application of monitoring data in decisions and ensures the analyses are appropriate according to the monitoring program. Performs standard geospatial analyses at multiple scales to relate land uses to observe vegetative, soil, biological, chemical indicators or habitat condition.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-09 level you must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level equivalent in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of a Data Analyst (Natural Resource Monitoring). Qualifying specialized experience includes: preparing graphs and data profiles; entering and retrieving information from databases; analyzing information in order to prepare and organize scientific information for use in reports; utilizing geospatial technologies such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS); and using computer systems to perform day-to-day tasks and to record and retrieve data related to scientific activities. OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have a Master's or equivalent degree, or two (2) full years (36 semester hours) of graduate-level education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the difficulty and complexity to do the work of this position. Only graduate level education in excess of 18 semester hours may be combined with experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is typically performed in an office setting with no special physical demands. However, work is also performed in the field which involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. Field work routinely requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces or mountainous terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, and/or reaching; using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, or screening devices; and lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits. Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, work time is also spent visiting field sites. Field site visits are typically performed in an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and/or involve safety hazards associated with working around complex features and/or construction. Both settings may require the use of personal protective equipment. Safety precautions and protocols are observed at all times and the incumbent complies with safety instructions and regulations and ensures individual and others' safety by promptly reporting unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and accidents to the supervisor.

Education

This position has a positive education requirement that requires you to have:

A) Degree: In biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B) A combination or education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
