Duties

At the GS-6 level, in addition to the GS-5 duties: Processes specimens in the field Conducts record searches and interviews, and synthesizes information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values. At the GS-7 level, in addition to the GS-5 and 6 duties: Retrieves and compiles data as required for resource management reports, interpretive exhibits, etc. Provides leadership to field crews by assigning tasks and monitoring the status of those assignments. Prepares specimens for specialized analysis to be sent to dating and other laboratories. Identifies, labels and packages artifacts for curation. At Capitol Reef and Glacier National Park, selectees will assist with a variety of cultural resource projects, including archeological surveys and site documentation, condition assessments and site monitoring, maintaining related site records and databases including Cultural Resources Inventory System (CRIS) and GIS database management.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/26/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: work assisting archaeologists or senior technicians in field archaeological type work. Participating in basic archeological field surveys, assisting in basic excavations or assisting in more complex excavations; processing archaeological specimens, identifying and labeling artifacts for curation; or recovering artifacts in soils.-OR-Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education (18 credits) directly related to the work of the position (i.e. archeology, anthropology with courses in archeology, etc.). You must include transcripts with your application materials. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: conduct excavation and testing of sites, including the careful recovery of sample materials (include completing standard feature and level forms, screening soils to recover artifacts and performing flotation of soil samples. Conducts record searches and interviews, and synthesizes information collected for scientific, historical, and interpretive values.-OR-Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education (18 credits) directly related to the work of the position (i.e. archeology, anthropology with courses in archeology, etc.). You must include transcripts with your application materials. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
