About the Position: Serves as an Armed Security Guard that performs various aspects of law enforcement functions designed to maintain law and order and preserve the peace for the Winn Army Community Hospital campus and outlying clinics and buildings.
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veteran's preference eligible applicants available, non- preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, and biometrics automated records, vehicle decals and verbal questioning.
Question suspicious persons and detain those suspected of criminal/illegal activity.
Secure the installation/building access points on own initiative during drills and emergency situations.
Apply non-lethal force when necessary to control an incident.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
- Department of the Army Security Guards (DASG) must qualify and maintain appropriate level security clearance, satisfactorily complete initial training, field training program (FTP), and annual required training IAW AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must wear the prescribed DASG uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
- Candidates with convictions of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are ineligible for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
- False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment IAW Title 18 USC 922(g) (91).
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Shift work is required in this position as well as work on weekends and holidays. In the event of an emergency (e.g. inclement weather, disaster coverage, etc.), employee may be required to report for duty outside of scheduled shift.
- This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring personnel access into restricted areas using both manual and electronic methods; provide protective service work in guarding and protecting property; and perform motorized as well as foot patrols in order to detect problem situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
