This position is located at Kayenta Service Unit (KSU), Division of Clinical Services, Counseling Services, Kayenta, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to provide therapeutic mental health and/or social services to adults, families and some children and adolescents. This position will emphasize community and interagency liaison effects on behalf of adults or famiies and their children..
Duties
Exercises mature, professional judgement and flexible application of a broad range of psychiatric social work skills in the study, diagnosis and treatment of individual patients, and/or families who present an unlimited range of complex psycho-social and environmental problems.
Reaches independent conclusions in serving isolated and vulnerable patients having complicated, conflicting needs and relationships that are difficult to resolve.
Provides continuing psychiatric social work service to patients and/or their families while they are recovering from mental illness or living with a mentally ill family member.
Provides case studies for medical providers, other medical staff and community agencies.
Coordinates with tribal communities, courts and community groups in the provision of services and programs to the Indian community to meet identified needs, including community program education and community support groups.
Prepares and completes correspondence, reports, case records, statistical and other similar or related material regarding the progress of psychiatric social work services.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: Social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-09.In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. OR
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing mature professional judgement in the study, diagnosis and treatment of individual patients. Ability to provide intensive psychiatric social work services, and independently prepare and give interpretation of patient case studies. Utilizes judgement and maturity of insight on problem cases. Ability to communicate with tribal communities, courts and groups to provide relevant services.
Selective Placement Factor: Applicant must possess a current valid unrestricted license U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW) or a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
