About the Position: You will serve as Secretary (OA) performing routine administrative and miscellaneous clerical work in support of the USA Joint Readiness Training Center Operations Group located at Fort Johnson, Louisiana (formerly Fort Polk).

Duties

Receives calls, greets visitors, and directs them to supervisor or other staff members; AND refers all inquiries to appropriate personnel. Responds to routine and nontechnical requests for information such as status of reports, suspense dates for matters requiring compliance, and similar information readily available from files. Receives and reviews all incoming mail for the organization and reviews outgoing mail for enclosures, dates, signature, complete addresses, and destinations. Maintains Supervisor's calendar and schedules appointments/meetings based on personal knowledge of supervisor's workload, interests, commitments, and issues of importance. Arranges for conferences and meetings to include location, agenda and attendance list; AND gathers a variety of presentation material for use in meetings, command briefings, training sessions, or for publication utilizing Microsoft Office programs. Prepares office reports, forms, personnel actions, travel orders/vouchers and related travel arrangements; AND maintains a variety of controls/logs reflecting office activities (i.e. personnel actions, training requirements, overtime, leave usage). Reads directives and instructional material pertaining administrative and clerical information to be aware of new, revised, or amended procedures regarding correspondence, filing, mail, travel orders/vouchers (using DTS program), and security. Maintains ready-reference files of frequently consulted regulations, policies, rosters, directives, and other material. Types final documents from written material, instructions, reports, travel documents, and personnel actions using manual, electric, automated typing equipment, and automated computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office, ATAAPS, DTS, Adobe, etc.). Proofreads completed work for accuracy in spelling, grammatical construction, punctuation, and checks all pertinent enclosures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the selectee can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Basic Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing routine administrative and miscellaneous clerical work, providing customer service, answering telephone calls, maintaining office files, requisitioning office supplies, receiving incoming mail, reviewing outgoing correspondence, maintaining supervisor's calendar, and/or making travel arrangements for personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Separated Military Members: Resumes will be accepted from members of the Armed Forces who indicate in their applications that they are available for appointment within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. Military members may be appointed while on terminal/transitional leave, before the effective date of their military retirement/separation.
