The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a focal point in the organization for technical support specialist duties, providing computer related assistance and support to organizational users.

Duties

Performs technical support specialist duties. Performs computer security duties. Monitors and maintains computers and related peripherals and tracks routine maintenance of existing computer equipment. Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc..

  • This position may be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • Work may occasionally require employee to travel away from normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six months requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • A physical will be required for this position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-0335, Computer Clerk and Assistant Series. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Group-Standards SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: The utilization of internal computer processes and a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principals to identify system failures, modify programs or procedures, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; utilizing the functions, capabilities, and limitations of a variety of computers, computer network systems/programs, and computer related software/hardware to install, test, upgrade, and maintain proper functionality; and utilizing standard workstation operating systems and office productivity applications for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and databases to train and assist customers in running applications, troubleshooting/optimization, and managing disks. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the fundamental capabilities and limitations of a variety of computers, computer network systems, and programs; as well as computer-related software and hardware in order to test, install, upgrade, configure, diagnose, and maintain proper functionality. Knowledge of network security environment, network configuration, standard network operating system service and support sharing and securing resources involving technical program applications used within the organization. Knowledge of advanced configuration of internet browsers, electronic mail, and website design to maintain and update existing systems. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, and E-mail/messaging. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
