This is an Internship position in the Pathways Program. The Pathways Internship Program provided students on-going training on Security principles, concepts, work processes, and regulations. The student intern receives formal and/or on-the-job training while attending an accredited college or university degree program. Interns receives tailored instruction, guidance, and supervision designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance of the work assigned.
Duties
Assists with coordinating with Headquarters, Region, and Corporate Audit Directorate (CAD) offices to clarify personnel information and/or obtain additional information to fulfill security requirements.
Compile and track data; providing basic computer assistance; scheduling meetings; typing correspondences; providing standard information on administrative policies.
Gathers and summarizes information from files and documents for the supervisor's or staff's use in responding to inquiries.
Assists higher-graded Security Specialists in conducting physical security inspections, assisting outside visitors, evaluating findings and recommended changes to visitor tracking logs, and other similar activities.
Assists in the receipt, control, logging, safekeeping, and necessary action on classified materials. Assists the staff with clerical, procedural, and instructions for the office.
Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite physical or industrial security inspections or assistance visits and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes.
Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions.
Requirements

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (at a minimum); some positions require a TS/SCI - Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information; A Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CI/Poly) may be required

- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0

Qualifications
Applicants must be current students or enrolled for Fall 2024 pursuing a degree in a qualifying educational institution. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Minimum Qualifications for the GS-2099-04:
Completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-2099-05:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-4 or equivalent level. Specialized experience includes knowledge of a body of standardized security rules, regulations, and directives to perform a full range of standard personnel security assignments such as processing a variety of security actions, processing forms for various investigation requirements, reviewing reports of information/investigation on individuals to determine whether to establish Security Information Files, responding to routine inquiries about personnel security matters, and identifying mismatches and erroneous data on reports.
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience for the GS-05: A bachelor's degree or four years (120 semester hours) of post high school education leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim).
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-2099-07:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 or equivalent level. Specialized experience is applying basic personnel security regulations, guidelines and standards in order to provide procedural or technical support in the administration of a personnel security program, and responding to procedural questions regarding personnel security program processes.
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience for the GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision after completing a bachelor's degree.
This is an Excepted Service appointment. Interns may be converted to a permanent or term (time-limited) position within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for conversion, interns must: complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program; complete their degree or certificate requirements; meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted, meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Pathways Participant Agreement; and perform their job successfully. Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.
