You will serve as a SMALL CRAFT OPERATOR LEADER in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT (N3) of CNI NAVMAG INDIAN ISLAND.
Duties
You will interpret diagrams or blueprints to determine the required corrective action for malfunctioning equipment on small craft.
You will conduct fire, life raft, or man overboard drills to maintain small craft operating crew proficiency.
You will direct the daily maintenance of small craft for the safety of passengers and crew.
You will prepare logs to track small craft maintenance activities.
Requirements

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- The incumbent will be subject to working odd or rotating shifts and weekends. Callback overtime is a requirement of this position.
- The incumbent may also be required to apply for and obtain a forklift license up to 7.5 ton (15,000#) capacity.
- Incumbent shall respond to radiological emergencies and perform radiological emergency drills.
- Employee required to become Facility Response Team (FRT) and HSIRM quailed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The incumbent may be required to lift, carry, or pull up to 44 pounds while on underway craft. The incumbent must be able to climb vertical ladders, stairs, and endure prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, pulling, reaching, and must have good hand/finger dexterity. Incumbent must have the physical ability to handle mooring lines, fenders, anchors, and similar equipment.
Must have vision in the normal range in both eyes with normal depth perception. Must have peripheral vision that will enable the incumbent to avoid falls and moving objects. Must be able to distinguish shades of color in order to see navigational aids and running lights of other vessels.
WORK CONDITIONS:
The work is performed predominately outside and aboard log broncs or other waterborne craft in all kinds of weather and sea states. The work requires long periods of constant standing and walking. Subject to hot sun, spray, rain, sleet, and ice. Will be exposed to possible injury, strains, cuts, bruises and falls due to slippery footing and erratic motion. Exposed to industrial noises generated by operating machinery and equipment with the possibility of hearing loss. Eye hazards will exist in most areas and/or in certain operations. Will be exposed to organic growths (such as sea growth, barnacles, and shellfish) in dry docks, salt water systems, and other areas exposed to seawater. Will be required to use protective devices, clothing or equipment, while exposed to adverse environmental and hazardous work assignments.
The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. Incumbent may also be assigned to work areas where contact with sewage waste is possible. To ensure employee safety and health, the CRNW and PSNS & IMF maintain personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent will required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualifications and/or need for vaccination for duty involving work with these agents and/or possible contraction of disease.
SAFETY:
Incumbent is responsible for following safe work practices, including the use of appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE). Incumbent is required to perform duties with the highest level of attention to safety and health and will take the initiative to make the work area safe for themselves as well as those around them. Incumbent is required to notify his/her supervisor either orally or in writing as soon as possible of items he/she is unable to correct. Incumbent is responsible for following all requirements concerning the use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
May be required to work with hazardous materials such as fuel additives, paints, thinners, batteries and corrosives. Employee to follow all the Regional hazmat rules and regulations as directed. Incumbent to handle, store and dispose of all hazmat material according to all Regional rules, regulations and directives.
