This position is located at the State Office (SO) in Columbus, OH. The incumbent serves as a Public Affairs Specialist and has responsibility for developing, coordinating and carrying out a sound public information program to communicate agency policies, programs, services and activities for the Western Lake Erie Basin watershed program.

Duties

Assist agency personnel with developing public involvement campaigns, preparing information materials, and designing public meetings and workshops. Arrange for television or radio coverage concerning conservation and/or provides scripts to media for release. Organize and coordinate print and broadcast media interviews with agency personnel, and oversees arrangements with the media involving agency activities. Write, assemble, edit, and review materials such as annual reports or state story/highlighting activities for inclusion in the State Newsletter. Order and maintain an inventory of information publications.

Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying: Specialized Experience: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Assisting with public affairs programming which involves community members and staff in program activities; Edit materials written by staff for media coverage or publication (ie: articles, scripts, press releases); Writing original content for media coverage such as articles or scripts; and Assisting staff with oral presentations for meetings, workshops, or other public events. OR Education: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in Public Affairs, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or other directly related degree. (You MUST submit transcripts.) OR Combination: Combination of the specialized experience and graduate education described above that when combined totals 100 percent. First, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of two years (36 semester hours) may be used to qualify applicants for positions at the GS-11. (You MUST submit transcripts.) To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet ONE of the following: Specialized Experience: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Conducting public affairs programming which involves community members and staff in program activities; Advising staff on the development of materials intended for media coverage or publication (ie: articles, scripts, press releases, or photographs); Writing original content for media coverage such as articles, press releases, scripts or brochures; Giving oral presentations at events such as press conferences, workshops, meetings or trainings; and Training staff to conduct oral presentations in meetings, workshops, or other public events.
