You will serve as a WELDER SUPERVISOR I in the Welding Shop (Code 926), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools provided through the (AIM) process for assigned units of work. You will establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences. You will effectively communicate work assignments to subordinate work leaders journeymen. You will analyze work plans. You will monitor status of assigned work in relation to the overall scheduled requirements. You will provide technical direction to subordinate workers in the welder trade.

Requirements

  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Implements expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes, procedures, materials, and practices of the welder trade; plans the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools; provides expert advice and guidance on welder processes and trade skills; Implements expert knowledge or hot work safety and deck plate problem resolution. implementing knowledge of surface craft and submarine systems, components, and compartments; conducts pre-job planning, pre-job briefing, and resource needs. Performing regular site supervision, establishing performance goals; Reading and interpreting blueprints, welding work documents, and following proper welding procedures.
