This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Yard, Occupational Safety and Health Branch in Baltimore, MD.
Duties
The Coast Guard Yard is an industrial facility performing activities related to the maritime industry including ship repair, construction, ship disposal and industrial activities. You will be a member of a team providing inspection, program review, and training services in the occupational safety and health to the Yard and tenant commands.Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:* Advising and providing consultative services to the Safety and Occupational Health Staff, industrial managers/supervisors, engineering personnel, medical personnel, top and mid level management as well as the workforce on occupational safety and health matters.* Conducting comprehensive occupational safety and health surveys in the work environment.* Investigating and analyzing mishaps to ascertain root cause and contributing elements and submits to appropriate units via electronic mishap system.* Maintaining all records and data associated with mishaps, including the OSHA Log, Lost Time Case Rates (LTCR) and Lost Days as well as other regulatory required record keeping.* Investigating safety complaints and recommends corrective action to supervisors, managers and other personnel. Maintaining the Hazardous Condition Log in regard to complaint resolution.

Qualifications
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes experience investigating and analyzing mishaps to ascertain root cause and contributing elements. Working with an industrial facility performing safety and health related duties.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
