You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST AND EXPLOSIVE SAFETY OFFICER in the SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH DIVISION of NAVAL AIR STATION.

Duties

You will analyze work tasks to determine existing or potentially hazardous situations. You will advise management officials on the status of safety and occupational health programs to aid in operational decision making. You will discuss accident prevention measures to address deficiencies and enforce safety rules.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work requires frequent walking and prolonged standing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying hazard control techniques affecting the safety and occupational health programs of the organization; 2) Preparing safety and occupational reports outlining the origin, root cause, or contributing elements of mishaps and/or hazardous conditions; 3) Advising the organization on safety and occupational health awareness; 4) Evaluating safety organizational/program processes. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
An LLM. degree that is related to the position being filled
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience may be used to meet the specialized experience requirement.
