The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking bright, innovative, results-driven post-secondary students under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA is a highly competitive authority appointing post-secondary students into internships for subsequent advancement to the journey-level in professional and administrative career fields.
Duties
The National Weather Service is seeking an undergraduate or graduate level student working towards a degree in physical science in order to gain practical experience.
As a Student Trainee (Physical Science), you will receive on-the-job training and formal training to provide experience in the operation and familiarization with physical science programs, policies, and procedures, and an opportunity to perform progressively more responsible assignments as experience is gained.
This position is not in the bargaining unit.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for an appointment under this Internship for Post-Secondary Students:
You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the school; AND
Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); AND
The duties of this position should be related to your academic or career goals.
You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment.
Qualification Requirements
To qualify at the GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
Education
Definition of Student: Student is defined as an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, or certificate) in a qualifying academic institution, on a half or full-time basis. Half-time is defined by the educational institution in which the student is enrolled. Students do not have to be in actual physical attendance in school, online curriculums are acceptable as long as the school is accredited by the Department of Education.
Proof of Enrollment: NOAA will use applicant's transcript as proof of enrollment in the identified college/university provided it demonstrates definition of eligible student. A letter from an educational institution indicating acceptance may be used as proof of enrollment for those students who are continuing studies at a new college or university or for those student whose transcripts do not reflect in-progress courses. An official transcript will be required before you can report to duty.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
