This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Procurement, Acquisition and Logistics (OPAL), National Acquisition Center (NAC), Denver Logistics Center (DLC), Service and Distribution Center (SDC). The incumbent performs nonsupervisory work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds on the Hines VA Campus. Work includes trade practices such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, painting, and related trades.

Duties

This is a bargaining unit position. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Total Rewards Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30p Duty Location Status: Hines, IL Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Worker/ PD441460 Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Physical Demands: The incumbent works on benches and/or at work-sites. Work may be located on ladders, scaffolds, etc., requiring overhead work in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. The incumbent will operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment and is often required to lift and carry moderately heavy or awkwardly shaped items, such as lumber, tool boxes and heavy machinery normally not in excess of 50 pounds. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity. May work in cramped and awkward positions, reaches, bends, lifts while using tools, parts, and/or equipment. The work requires some physical exertion, also including long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Major Duties: Serves as Maintenance Worker for the Service and Distribution Center providing a variety of maintenance services and assisting journey level tradesmen as requests in support of mission operations. Is responsible for the execution of facilities work orders (inspections and repairs) as assigned by the Facilities Operations Supervisor. Performs general facility tasks to include but not limited to pest control, assembly/maintenance of office furniture and appliances, landscaping and other similar tasks. The incumbent serves as a resident expert of the facility systems in support of contractors working on construction projects in the building. Work is performed as part of a regular maintenance schedule or as problems occur. The position is involved with installing, modifying, repairing maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Installs new or used electrical equipment/systems in accordance with design specifications, plans and layouts. Disassembles existing equipment, configurations, and systems and reconfigures per plans provided. Performs general facility tasks to include but not limited to pest control, assembly/maintenance of office furniture and appliances, landscaping and other similar tasks. Performs the full range of work in support of others involved in repairs, maintenance, overhaul, maintenance, installing of a wide range of utility and structural systems and equipment; and troubleshooting on electric, plumbing, carpentry welding and painting

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
