You will serve as a TECHNICAL WRITER-EDITOR in the TACTICS DEVELOPMENT BRANCH of NAVSURFMINEWARDEVCEN DET SAN DIEGO.

Duties

You will be responsible for managing Navy's air and missile defense tactical library to keep content current and responsive to fleet feedback. You will act as the primary author for development, revision and change of selected publications. You will manage collaborative writing teams to which is assigned, and oversee development, review, changes and cancellations of effected publications. You will define scope of publication efforts and identify any required analysis, research, or information. You will execute the document development process to include writing first draft, conducting review and comment periods, adjudicating comments and writing the final draft. You will make recommendations to conceive, plan, initiate and adjust the scope of documents to align with command priorities and fleet feedback. You will conduct annual assessments of the air and missile defense library and develop near and far term publication development plans.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing editorial duties to develop, write or edit technical manuals or publications in support of Department of Defense and/or Department of Navy tactical library systems or work processes.
