You will serve as a LOCKSMITH in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will read appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals to determine project requirements. You will perform visual checks to detect worn or damaged parts (e.g., broken springs, jammed pins, bent discs, broken tail pieces, rust, and corrosion). You will use tools and equipment of the locksmith trade to install locks throughout an organization. You will duplicate keys using cutting or duplicating machines. Establish master key systems to set up coding systems for different types of locks and keyways. You will repair, overhaul, modify, and install locking devices which make up security or surveillance systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift, high lift, and/or construction equipment license.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain special certifications and/or licensing. For example, this position may require Respirator certification
  • Work may require certification thru the DOD Lock Program.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Perform a full repair cycle of locating malfunction, disassembly, repair, cleaning, reassembly, and re-installation of a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices; 2) Determine the work sequence and select hand and power tools (e.g. files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, grinders, buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, soldering, irons, brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses) to repair locking mechanisms; and 3) Plan techniques to be used and apply judgement in the selection of tools and accepted trade practices to troubleshoot and neutralize locks according to appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals.
