THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, Position Description Number D2460000 and is part of the CO AASF, National Guard.
The position is responsible for providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots, instructor pilots and aeroscout observers in flying techniques and methods of instruction, examination and evaluation.
Duties
Incumbent serves as instructor pilot, pilot in command on one or more of the following helicopters: Attack Helicopter (AH-64); Cargo Helicopter (CH-47); Utility Helicopter (UH-60 series), (LUH-72series) and others when assigned Also performs one or more duties in a specific functional area of aircraft operations. Serves as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP). Trains and evaluates aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. Performs preflight weather analysis, route and altitude selections, alternate airport selection, fuel, cargo and passenger load computations, selection of refueling stops, preflight inspections, flight plan filing, and firing ranges route planning/coordination.
Performs one or more of the following major functional duties: Serves as rotary wing Instrument Flight Examiner (IE). Serves as rotary and/or fixed wing Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP). Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) and/or Functional Check Pilot (FCP). Serves as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) carrying out a variety of duties to provide a productive aviation safety program for the Army Aviation Support Facility. Serves are Maintenance Test Pilot (ME)/Functional Check Pilot (FCP) Evaluator. Serves as Aviation Mission Survivability Officer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Membership in the Colorado Army National Guard or eligible to transfer into the COARNG.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- Must hold the grade of W-2 or W-3.
- Compatible Military Assignment: 154FI MOS.

Must have at least 24 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following:
1. Experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation.
2. Experience in reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.
3. Experience in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
4. Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
5. Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance.
6. Experience in conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks.
7. Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
8. Experience in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies, regulations, and directives.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position.
