Duties

Serves as a coordinator for personal computer service and maintenance. Provides basic and advanced hardware and software technical support to Central Office and field users of personal computers and associated equipment. Performs diagnostics and repairs on Central office and field personal computers and all related equipment. Analyzes equipment for quality, suitability to Bureau’s needs, reliability, etc. Informally trains management and line staff to use computer programs designed to enhance their ability to perform their assigned duties (i.e., grammar checking, outlining systems, idea processors, project management and decision modeling programs).

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Basic Requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. OR Experience: You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower level in federal government. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience providing basic and advanced support on PC hardware configurations, peripherals, and other information systems technology. Experience training or teaching users of all ability levels to use computer programs. Experience providing guidance on the purchase of computer hardware and software, as it relates to support and compatibility requirements established by the agency. Experience with personal computer applications, changes and enhancements on new releases of application programs for personal computers. Experience performing a variety of diagnostics and repairs on personal computers on all levels of software and equipment, using personal computer hardware allowing diagnosis and correction of most problems. AND Selective Placement Factor: Applicants applying for this position, MUST also possess the following Selective Factors. In the event you do not possess the Selective Factors, you will be found ineligible for the position. Must have working experience in last 12 consecutive months of installation of Network Operating Systems such as Microsoft Windows Server, SuSE Linux with OES, as well as the desktop related client software such as Novell Client and configuration, workstation imaging, and installing networking printers, AND; Must have experience in the installation and configuration of desktop email applications, AND; Must have experience in Microsoft Windows workstation and Microsoft Office installation and configuration. NOTE: Applicants must clearly address this experience in their resume to be found qualified. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
