About the Position: The Airfield Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating and maintaining liaison with military, federal, and local agencies concerning airspace utilization, flying operations, aircraft emergencies, search and rescue operations, and natural disasters.

Duties

Provides direct support to unit and other military and civilian aircrews, during scheduled and unscheduled flying and ground activities. Processes flight plans, conducting necessary research and/or queries in the coordination of scheduled flights. Participates in the scheduling of airfield activities with tenant and transient unit commands, requiring use of the airfield. Assists the Airfield Manager, Airfield Operations Officer or designated representative in the research and evaluation of airfield data. Performs daily airfield inspections/checks for conditions, physical security, and force protection to ensure a safe airfield environment. Provides aircrews with information and assistance, necessary for planning and conducting safe flight operations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Key Position. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CAN NOT become a member of the Ready Reserve.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line Driver's License per In AR 95-2.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
  • This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays with high periods of stress. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods.
  • This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • This position requires a medical examination prior to employment.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 5 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes examining flight plans to determine the need for special handling of aircraft arriving or departing; monitoring flight plan data and air traffic control messages; and providing advisory services to pilots of aircrafts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
