THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AERIAL REFUELING TECHNICIAN, Position Description Number D2308000 and is part of the KS 190 Air Refueling Wing, National Guard.

Duties

As an Aerial Refueling Technician, GS-2185-09, you perform in-flight refueling aircrew duties. Check forms for equipment status. Perform visual and operational check of air refueling and associated systems and equipment. Perform preflight, through-flight, and post-flight inspections. Accomplish preflight and post-flight records and reports. Perform in-flight operational check of air refueling systems. Direct receiver aircraft into air refueling position. Operate in-flight air refueling controls and switches to safely affect contact between tanker and receiver aircraft. Monitor control panel for proper operation of equipment during air refueling, and advise receiver pilot of actions required to safely maintain position within the air-refueling envelope. Keep tanker pilot informed as to progress of air refueling operations. Perform emergency operations and procedures as required for emergency off-load and on-load of fuel. Compute and completes aircraft weight and balance documentation. Visually monitor aircraft clearances (interior and exterior), identifies proximal threats to the aircraft and initiates corrective actions (aircraft scanning). Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

  • KANSAS AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft.
  • Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight standardization evaluation examinations to include random no notice evaluations.
  • The incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 24 hours duration).
  • Must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location
  • May be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. As prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight evaluation examinations
  • Required to maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. As prescribed by regulation, may be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties.
  • Employee must be eligible and maintain a Secret/Top Secret-SCI clearance
  • Incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy mission, must work in, hazardous noise areas, inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E5 through E6 Compatible Military Assignments: 1A172GH GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided a general knowledge of aircraft fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems and components. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have basic knowledge of aerial refueling capabilities of KC-135 and aerial refueling data for all authorized receiver aircraft. Knowledge and Skills Required: Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight standardization/evaluation examinations to include random no notice evaluations. Knowledge of aerial refueling capabilities of KC-135 and aerial refueling data for all authorized receiver aircraft. Knowledge of the theory of weight and balance; aerial refueling and restraint; mathematics (algebra, geometry and calculus); aircraft refueling and cargo systems/equipment; load planning; current flying directives, and applicable publications; border clearance requirements and forms; hazardous cargo handling and placement procedures; life support and passenger requirements; and egress/survival procedures. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare documents and reports, brief passengers and crews. Knowledge of a wide variety of systems and components critical to the performance of the aircraft such as propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, environmental, etc. Knowledge of flight instruments/navigational equipment and their functions sufficient to cross-check systems and assist the pilot in analyzing possible causes of malfunctions or discrepancies. Knowledge of techniques and sources of data for fuel planning, and skill to determine fuel requirements, monitor consumption in flight, and analyze performance. Knowledge of navigational procedures relative to aerial refueling tracks, and skill to assist the pilot in positioning the tankers for rendezvous with receiver aircraft.
