This position is located in Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument or in Camp Nelson National Monument, in the Resource Management Division. This position serves two parks, Camp Nelson National Monument and Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 04/23/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Major Duties: Research, arrange, catalog, and rehouse museum collections. Provides overall professional and technical direction for the museum collection program, plans for and develops recommendations for programming priorities of all museum management functions, and ensures that NPS and professionally recognized procedures are applied in all operations. Maintains all record keeping and documentation for museum collections. Conducts research necessary to identify and/or authenticate museum objects, to obtain necessary catalog data, develops new techniques for collection preservation, and determines legal status (copyright). Maintains proper preservation, security and fire protection, and collection storage conditions; monitors, controls and maintains the environment for collections; and manages an integrated pest management program. Attends management and professional conferences and other events for the purposes of exchanging information and advancing advocacy for park stewardship.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/23/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following Basic and Specialized Experience requirements by close of the announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in museum studies or in an applicable subject-matter field. You must provide transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. -OR- EXPERIENCE: 4 years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above. -AND- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting one of the Basic Education Qualification Requirements above, applicants must have specialized experience or education as defined below. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience includes activities such as: ensure museum collections are stored, exhibited, handled, inventoried and monitored according to policy; maintain records and documentation for museum collections; ensure collections transactions meet legal, ethical, and collections management policy; and evaluate program needs and make recommendations on priorities, cost estimates, and budget requirements. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in museum work or applicable subject-matter field. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first divide the total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide the number of completed progressively higher-level graduate semester hours of education (that are in excess of 36 semester hours) by 36. Add the two percentages together; the total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of more than two-years may be used to qualify for this position. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP.
