This position is part of the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management - National Energy Technology Laboratory, Department of Energy. As a Industrial Hygienist, you will assist in analyzing and deploying policies, processes, and standards to ensure that DOE workers, contractors, facilities, and activities are properly protected and that projects are inspected, analyzed, evaluated, assessed, and documented.

- This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
1. Analyze/evaluate worker safety health plans.
2. Education/experience with at least 5 of the following 8 Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety disciplines; chemical exposure, air monitoring, noise, ventilation, ergonomics, nanomaterial, asbestos, and confined space.
3. Prepare presentations, technical papers, reports, and briefings on new and changing techniques, tactics, practices, procedures, rules, and laws regarding Industrial Hygiene/Safety disciplines.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
