About the Position: The Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA) safety program encompasses a variety of sensitive and critical activity wide programs in support of the Toxic Chemical Munitions storage mission, directly affecting the life, health, and safety of all BGCA employees.

Duties

Manages a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health Program at a chemical weapons stockpile site. Develops policy and plans for the Activity to carry out assigned safety responsibilities. Oversees a variety of sensitive and critical Activity-wide programs in support of the Toxic Chemical Munitions storage mission. Evaluates technical aspects of design, development, testing and operation of Army materiel, equipment, and facilities. Conducts and completes special assignments, which typically involve highly technical and complex safety problems which have high visibility by the Commander and Headquarters. Provides oversight of programs related to the disposition and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials. Monitors environmental parameters, and conducts inspections including recommendations for corrective action when needed. Performs supervisory duties to include: Assign/monitor work; prepare schedules for completion of work; develop performance standards, evaluate performance; effect disciplinary actions, resolve complaints/grievances; and identify training needs.

Requirements

• This position requires the incumbent obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• This position requires participation in the Chemical Incident or Mishap Response and Assistance (CIMRA) situations and serve on teams dedicated to mitigating CIMRA situations.
• The incumbent must qualify for and remain qualified for the Chemical Unescorted Access Program (UAP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-59
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain a Career Program 12 Safety Professional Certificate within one year of appointment.
• One year Supervisory probation may be required
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain a Career Program 12 Explosives Safety Level-1 Certificate within one year of appointment.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
• This position requires the employee to use Personal Protective Equipment provided by the employer, such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes are required.
