This WG-3603-07 Masonry Worker position will be located at Hovenweep National Monument in Montezuma Creek, UT. This is a permanent, full-time, Career-Seasonal position with up to two pay periods (four weeks) of non-pay status each year, scheduled sometime between late December and late January. Duties

This is a Career-Seasonal position. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. The selectee will be in non-pay status for up to two pay periods (4 weeks) each year, scheduled sometime between late December to late January. The primary purpose of this position is to perform various historic preservation masonry tasks in the stabilization and rehabilitation of historic structures. Assist in the maintenance, repair, and restoration of historic structures and surfaces constructed of stone. Assist higher-graded employees in the preparation of test mixes and prepares amended and un-amended mortars according to historic specifications. With minimal direct supervision, remove damaged portions of walls, partitions or other similar historic structures in preparation for repair. Cap, replace, grout, and reinforce walls/portions of walls, with close supervision, so that the repaired portion closely matches the original, undamaged portions of the historic structure. Load, unload and haul cement, soil, stone, tools, and equipment, stack and handle stone building materials and supplies to job site. Physical Demands: Incumbent often lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds, unassisted. The incumbent frequently stands while working and must frequently stands while working and must frequently climb ladders and scaffolds from 6 to 30 feet. Bending, stooping, climbing and working in awkward positions are regularly required. Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to a variety of weather conditions while working outdoors and is subject to danger of falling when working from ladders and scaffolds. They may be exposed to dust and dirt while mixing mortar, removing damaged portions of walls, and while handling various masonry materials. Frequently works around heavy equipment and vehicles. In accordance with OSHA regulations, must use all personal protective equipment as required by OSHA regulations.

1. Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT), to include the following masonry skills: Maintain, repair, and preserve masonry structures; Removing of damaged portions of architectural features; Selecting and dressing replacement stones; Mixing mortar that has appropriate color, strength, and composition; and/or Replicating original architectural styles. 2. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. 3. Dexterity and Safety. 4. Knowledge of materials. 5. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic).
