You will serve as a ROOFER in the Facilities Sustainment Division of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Salary Range of the WG-07: $28.97 - $33.81 Salary Range of the WG-09: $33.27 - $38.83

Duties

You will perform roof repairs and facilities maintenance. You will set-up and operate tools and equipment needed to perform roofing work. You will apply hot tar and composition roofing paper to wood sheathing. You will apply roofing felt, asphalt and gravel, or other topping material to built-up roofs. You will cut felt, shingles, or strips of flashing to fit angles formed by walls, vents, or intersecting roof surfaces. You will use chalk lines, gauges on shingling hatchets, or lines on shingles to install layers of material over roof insulation surfaces.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You may be required to work in shifts.
  • You will be required to be certified in the use of a respirator within 60 days from entrance on duty date.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. To qualify for the WG-9 your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Assisting with installing new roofs, applying felt, gravel and other topping materials, and sealing joints around flashing and guards; 2) Locating and fixing leaks and cracked/missing tiles in roofs; 3) Removal of defective roofing and ensuring the area is properly prepared for new roofing; 4) Performing roofing work with solidified asphalt and asphalt kettles. To qualify for the WG-7 your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Sweeping and cleaning roofs to prepare them for the application of new roofing materials; 2) Applying roofing material (e.g., tile, composition, gravel, sheathing, concrete, sheet rock) to roofs; and 3) Utilizing basic roofing tools and materials (e.g., pry bars, hammers, nail pullers, etc) to repair damage. **NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.** Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
