This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Operational Support Division, Office of Investigative Technology. The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the planning, developing, coordinating and implementing an appropriate physical security/crime prevention program.

As a Security Specialistyour typical work assignments may include: Oversees and manages visitor access control program. Develops policies, procedures, standards, training, and methods for identifying and protecting information, resources, and operations. Analyses and evaluates the character, background, and history of employees, candidates for employment, and other persons having or proposed to be granted access to classified or sensitive resources. Recommends on-site examination of buildings, barriers, security forces, protective lighting, detection systems and other physical security measures employed to protect government property and facilities. Provides support and involvement with internal and external counterparts in a variety of security programs such as, Threat Awareness and Reporting Program, Force Protection, Information Systems Security, Operations Security, and Emergency Management.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. Specialized Experience: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Toqualify for the GS-12 position, one year of specialized experience performing as a GS-11 or equivalent includes: 1) Assisting with the analysis and recommendation of new security systems or upgrades (e.g. ID systems; security containers; personnel entry control systems); 2) Supporting senior security specialists with the analysis for physical security or crime prevention policies; 3) Recommending new policy proposals for the development and implementation of training, methods to protect information from misuse, theft, vandalism, espionage, loss etc. To qualify for the GS-13 position, one year of specialized experience performing as a GS-12 or equivalent includes: 1) Analyzing and recommending new security systems or upgrades (e.g. ID systems; security containers; personnel entry control systems); 2) Providing analysis for a physical security or crime prevention policies; 3) Writing policy proposals for the development and implementation of training, methods to protect information from misuse, theft, vandalism, espionage, loss etc. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
