You will serve as a BOATBUILDER LEADER in the Preservation Shop (Code 970), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will instruct and demonstrate proper work methods for performing repairs of boats and associated components such as battery stowage boxes, brackets and shelving, manufacturing molds, milling keel sections, engine foundations, etc. You will serve as Quality Inspector for each phase of boat repair. You will ensure work production is progressing as scheduled per instructions and that quality of the work assures integrity of the boats seaworthiness. You will ensure all personnel are sufficiently trained to preclude work stoppages. You will repair, fabricate, and overhaul damaged and deteriorating boats. You will work directly from specifications and utilize precise weighing and measuring instruments.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Repairing of boats and associated components such as battery stowage boxes, brackets and shelving for the mounting of shipboard equipment; manufacturing mold and templates; milling keel sections, engine foundations, exhaust venting sections, planking, cabin sides, combings, chaffing, identifying, removing and replacing water saturated floatation foam. Developing molds for fabrication of new components, removal of damaged parts and restoration to a finished ready state. Works directly from specifications and utilizes precise weighing and measuring instruments. Utilizing clay, plasters, woods, metals, milling parts and components; and laminating plastics, welding rigid vinyl, thermo-setting plastics, and two part rubber compound.
