You will serve as a WELDER in the Mayport Production Branch, FRCMA VRT Department, Mayport Navel Station Aviation Depot of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER.

Duties

You will review job orders, related instructions, or drawings to determine manpower, materials, or equipment needed to accomplish the welding work outlined. You will inspect welding equipment to verify it is in safe working order. You will select material (e.g., sheet metal, metal plates, bar or cylindrical stock, I beams, stainless steel, brass) to accomplish a welding task. You will weld structural assemblies that are subject to high stress such as mounts, frames, lifting points, etc.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Welding certification.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1.Operating as a certified welder in the execution of welding and cutting operations on weldable metals in all positions (flat, vertical and overhead), including pipes, valves and fittings for high-pressure air and steam subject to various non-destructive tests. 2 Performing and/or assisting in jobs normally assigned to other trades in the Voyage Repair Team (VRT) such as: Rigger, Marine Machinery Mechanic, Pipe fitter, Ship fitter, Test Mechanic and Electrician 3. Reading and interpret engineering and manufacturing drawings, blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. 4. Welding various types of metals including but not limited to: carbon and corrosion resistant steels, copper, brass, nickel, aluminum magnesium, titanium, chromolybdenum and their alloys.
