This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Research and Development Center, New London, CT.

Duties

As a Computer Scientist at the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC), you will join a fast-paced, diverse, and collaborative group of scientists, engineers, IT specialists, and analysts in the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber and Intelligence (C5I) Branch. As a member of the C5I Branch, you will contribute to research in focus areas such as radio frequency communications systems, electronic navigation systems, software-defined radios, cyber security systems, spectrum management, intelligence Systems, counter unmanned/uncrewed systems, command and control systems, and maritime domain awareness sensors. Focus is to produce analyses and prototypes that increase suitability, effectiveness, and security of C5I systems and can be transitioned to and sustained by operational coast guard units with available resources.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements Qualifications for Computer Science Series, 1550: Degree: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. NOTE: TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Education
